What is sugaring?

What is sugaring?

Body sugaring is one of the oldest methods of hair removal and used by the Egyptians. Body sugar paste is all natural and made of only three ingredients including lemon, sugar and water.

The paste is applied with a gloved hand, against the natural direction of growth to ensure it seeps into the hair follicle. It is then removed with quick flicking motions in the natural direction of growth.

Sugar does not adhere to live skin cells, thus you are exfoliating the skin by taking off only dead skin cells. This method helps reduce ingrown and broken hairs and you're left with silky smooth skin.

Conversation, laughter, and comfort are extremely important while you visit to make you feel at ease during your appointment. Please don't hesitate to contact with specific questions or inquiries.

A little about Nikki

Hey you've found me, welcome!
My name is Nikki, I've been a certified sugaring practitioner for almost 6 years and opened Silk & Sage Body Spa in the summer of 2020.

The body spa is located inside Peterborough Yoga, where I work alongside some truly inspiring female entrepreneurs.

I recently married my husband/best friend and we both love to travel and adventure together.

I take self care to heart, nomatter what that might look like on any day, as it was a saving grace for me in my healing.

I also love to decorate and design and I hope that when you enter the body spa you'll feel at home and comfortable.

I can't wait to meet you, see you soon.

What is Ayurveda?

  • Simply put, Ayurveda is the knowledge of life!
  • The word Ayurveda comes from the vedic terms “Ayur” meaning LIFE, and “Veda” meaning KNOWLEDGE
  • Born over 5,000 years ago, it is the oldest known holistic practice that bears its roots in the Indian subcontinent
  • Alternative practice that fosters harmony between the body, mind and soul
  • It looks at the whole person, and believes in locating the root cause of illness and disease by using food to heal the body in an extremely personalized way
  • Its purpose is to inject harmony into all aspects of life
  • Ayurveda uses the five basic elements (air, water, ether, fire, and earth) in nature to form and guide our energies, and in the body when these are combined they create “Doshas”, which are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. When these are out of balance or in access, this is where disease begins to enter our lives

A little about Alanna

I'm a sunny girl, and my favorite colour is yellow!

I love being in the garden in the spring and summer and reading my cozy stories with a tea latte in the fall and winterI.

I found my healing journey when I decided to use a midwife for my first baby's birth, and have been on this beautiful path of Ayurveda and herbal medicine ever since.

I love my town and the people in it that lift me up and cheer me on. I have deep faith and am humbled by the blessings surrounding me.

I can't wait to meet you and hold each other's hands on this journey.
